胡如珊：設計師是為社會發聲的文化批判者

項目遍及多個國家、來自世界各地的員工、使用超過 30 種語言，正是由胡如珊女士與郭錫恩先生共同創立的如恩設計研究室（Neri&Hu）的差異獨特性，以全球化的觀念結合多元、重疊的設計理念來建構一個新的建築範例，提供國際化的建築、室內、整體規劃、平面以及產品設計服務。此次我們邀請到被《透視雜誌》譽為 40 位 40 歲以下的卓越年輕設計師之一的胡如珊女士，以站在全球化的高端眼界，提出設計影響力的觀察與建言。

Q.胡女士曾說現在這樣一個全球化的時代，文化界限其實已經模糊甚至消失了，它變成是一個藝術化的過程，請問您如何看待建築設計與生活的關係？身為一個設計師應該在社會中扮演什麼角色？

我們身處在一個媒體與商業化的時代，每天都見證著設計與商業及生活的關係越來越密不可分。然而，我敢說設計在商業領域的重要性，對據有十足影響力的設計師與建築師來說，正在慢慢地深化。從美學與空間創作的角度，設計師應該樂於當個願意為社會發聲的文化批判者。

Design is more and more an inseparable part of business and living. We see testimonies of this every day in the media and the business world.  However, I would venture to say that the importance of design in business actually undermines a more pressing role of designers and architects, which is a cultural one, she should be the voice of a cultural critic, from the perspective of aesthetics and space making.

Q.從您豐富的國際經驗看來，設計產業目前有的正向和創新的發展有哪些？設計師該如何讓自己在國際的競爭下還能不斷成長、保有機會？

我們充斥了尚未準備開發與設計的東西，例如應用新工藝的方式支撐產品，並將其融入當中。我們需要有新的產物去保護環境、對抗污染，並驅使社會前進。目前還有太多的事物沒有經過設計，所以我們其實還存在著許多可能性。

Too many things have not yet been developed or designed. For one, new technology gives way for products to incorporate these technologies. The environment needs new products to protect it and go against the pollution driven society we have been for so long. There are too many things that have not been designed well, so too many possibilities.

Q.對於一個企業發展設計產品的重要性，這部份能否分享您透過在世界各地參與設計項目所觀察到的地域差異？

是的，我認為歷史會深深的影響各地人們對於設計的看法。有時在工作中，你足以察覺每個國家的精神，而且他們也會互相影響彼此。

Yes, I think the culture and history of a people and place deeply influence the way people think about design in different parts of the world. You can sense the spirit of a nation sometimes in the work by a group of people that nation, and they also influence each other as well.

Q.胡女士除了從事專業建築，室內設計，規劃設計，產品設計及平面設計外，也投入教育和研究領域，您認為推動品牌可否從品牌人才培育這方面來著手？執行所需哪些重點？

我認為需要重新思考和規劃設計師的教育（訓練）。現在的社會與過去的 20 年差異很大，但我們卻用同樣的方式教育建築師與設計師。除了科技的部分，人們對於「使用設計」以及「了解設計」也與以往大不相同，所以上述的內容都需被考慮。無論如何，比專業教育更深入的教化，是在接觸專業前最基礎的人文課題，舉凡文學、哲學、歷史及社會學等等，皆需要被強調教授予並用。如此一來，設計可以與社會有更密切的關聯。

I believe the way designers are educated needs to be rethought and re-planned.  The world is a very different place from even 20 years ago, but we still teach architecture and design quite similar to back then. Other than the technological aspect, the way people use design and understand design is also fundamentally different, so all that should be considered.  To go even deeper than professional education, however, is the basic humanities courses that should be taught well before a student touches the professional aspect, so subjects like literature, philosophy, history, and sociology...should be emphasized and be taught alongside design projects so that design can be more relevant to the society.

Q.「社會需要不同的聲音，也需要不同的審美觀」，請問您認為一個國際化的都市，該有什麼樣的設計樣貌，以及人們要有什麼認知來面對環境的變化？

每個城市都需要有個獨一無二的特色，城市必須隨時準備好被這個世界看見以及吸收任何事物來提升價值。不要讓彼此愈趨相似，而是要讓彼此更進步、更具有自我風格。我們都該試著接受並擁抱改變，以及學習如何將改變轉化為正面的力量。

Every city should have something that is uniquely their own, no one else have. It should also be ready to be open to the world and absorb things that will enhance who they are. Not to make them more like others, but make them even better than before, but more like themselves. To accept change and embrace change, and learn how to absorb the change into positive energy, is what we should try to do.

找到你的熱情，為你自己認真工作，你將不會為了你的決定與汗水而感到遺憾。

Find your passion, and be ready to work like a dog for your passion. Do it for no one else but yourself, then you will no regret a day for your decision and your sweat.
